~ ACT II ~
Death and the Afterlife. Everyone has an opinion as to what happens when we shuffle off this mortal coil. One of my uncles (a pastor) used to hope that Heaven was one softball game after another. Doubt if he was serious, but still, if you like softball, and he did …
Some serious responses:
• Nothing. Your brain is you. Your brain dies. You are gone.
• You return to the same place you were before birth.
• You are reincarnated at a higher or lower level.
• Your body/soul/energy is sent or ushered into another place.
My view, based heavily upon my Christian upbringing is this:
Like napping on the couch, we close our eyes and do not wake up. If we are to wake up, it will be the Lord that awakens us. Once dead, you are no longer bound by what we call time. Like many other things that have passed, time will be one of those things. It is then we will spend eternity in the presence of the Lord — not because of who we are, but for who He is and His sacrifice for us. He redeemed us. He made us worthy.
There are many arguable finer details I’m purposely leaving out. But, essentially, this is what I believe happens.
I could be totally wrong. But I will have no way of letting anyone know.
